DD and the Princess
Christmas day, DD's corral was done, we had decided to place her next to the Princess, who was a racehorse but due to injuries, is now home. As we led DD over to the house across from the pasture, it struck me that poor little DD has had many changes in her 3 years of life....and although she is particular about certain things, she does not complain about anything. The two girls became easy fast friends, not fighting or squealing across the fence. It was as if the Princess knew that DD was young and fragile, and DD knew that the once fierce, fire breathing race horse is broken. Both will heal, and both will settle into their new lives, and draw strength from one another. Life on our little farm is far from opulent; we have hot wire fences, and lack comfortable stalls with soft bedding...It is also cold in our part of the country during the winter months...But we have lots of fluffy warm blankets, an endless supply of hay and yummy well water. As I feed the girls their mash in the mornings, I am greeted with pricked ears and nickers of welcome, DD's large brown eyes are no longer dull and sad, they are now warm and welcoming. Princess once again holds her head up and those lovely dark eyes still contain the look of eagles, although her feet hurt.....Our journey together has just started...
